#LifeInHouston - Cabby's 37th Bday Weekend

#LifeInHouston - Cabby's 37th Bday Weekend

Last Friday your boy turned 37, and truth be told I had a wonderful weekend spending it with the fiancée, friends, and family. Most of the birthday happenings were chill, low key affairs at various spots around Houston.

To kick things off, Christina and I had a dinner date at Soto in Montrose. It was my first time there, though Christina had gone once before without me with her girlfriends - as she often does (….lol I’m jk if you’re reading this Christina, I don’t want any smoke!). We really enjoyed our dinner there,

but if we had to recommend specific dishes, they’d have to be the Lobster Tempura, Madai Nigiri, Sake Salmon Nigiri, plus some other Nigiri specials they had that night. The Wagyu Gyoza was pretty tasty, too.

I was also digging the vibe there. It’s definitely a good date night spot, though I wish I took more pics of the restaurant because the only pics I was able to find online make the place look less cool than it felt when we were there. Parking is a real pain, though, as the restaurant is located right on Westheimer, and all of its tiny parking lot is used for the complimentary valet. So just be aware of that if you visit, and don’t forget to bring some cash to tip the valet.

The next morning a few bros accepted my invite for a little workout sesh in the Mamba Lair (which, if you’re unaware, is what I call our garage gym). The workout consisted of some strength work on squats, a few quick sets on bench for a chest pump, and then some deadlifts supersetted with pull-ups to round out a full body workout.

Lastly, we had a get together at the Memorial Park Eastern Glades, which was really the “main event” of the birthday activities. At this age, most of our close friends have kids, are expecting kids, and/or have fur babies, so I thought having a family and pet friendly picnic would be the best way to hang out and see everyone. Plus, COVID is still a thing, so being outdoors felt like the safer play as well.

We couldn’t have gotten luckier with the weather, which was in the low 60s and not a cloud in the sky. I was really touched by the turnout, and I was glad to see everyone having a good time (including the kids).

It was truly a great weekend, and I don’t think I could have enjoyed it any more than I did. We had such a good time at the park that it got us thinking we need to make it a point to get out there more often with all our friends (without needing a special occasion as an excuse).
