Neighborhood Vibe

Family-friendly Neighborhood Close to the Loop

Garden Oaks and Oak Forest are residential communities northwest of the Heights, just across the 610 loop. Ample trees and nice-sized lots lend themselves to making Garden Oaks-Oak Forest appealing neighborhoods. Other attractive features include a quick and easy drive to all the action in the Heights (without actually having to live there), plenty of parks, easy access to I-610, and a relatively central location.

Just before WWII, Garden Oaks was laid out as a garden suburb with a range of housing from cottages to mansions. Oak Forest was developed immediately after WWII, and between the 1950s and 1970s, the surrounding subdivisions were developed. Thus, midcentury ranch homes were common in these neighborhoods. These days, many of these ranch homes have been completely renovated, while others have been replaced with larger new construction homes.
